What is the best time to post Instagram reels in India?

Instagram's own advice is to post when your audience is awake and most active. Why we do not print a one-size-fits-all table of Indian times, and how to find yours.

Search for the best time to post reels in India and you will find tidy tables: a few time slots for each day of the week, all confident. We have read enough of them to be careful.

This post tells you what Instagram itself says, why we do not print a table, and how to find the time that works for your audience in two weeks.

Is there a best time to post reels in India?

We went looking for a study of Indian audiences with a stated sample size and a described method, and we did not find one. The tables we found were global, or modelled from a tool's own data, or did not say how they were made.

Without a method, a table is a guess with a time stamp on it. We would rather tell you that than hand you a Tuesday-at-seven slot as if it were established.

What does Instagram say about timing?

Instagram's creator FAQ is short and does not name a time. Asked when to post, it says: "When your audience is awake and most active. Use your insights to understand their habits."

That is the whole official answer, and it is a useful one. It says the right time depends on your audience, and it points you to the one place that has data about them: your own insights.

How do you find your own best time?

Open your insights and look at your audience. We could not confirm the exact name or location of the "most active times" view in your app today, so look through your professional dashboard for the audience and activity screens.

Write down the times when your followers are most active, and note the time zone shown. For an Indian audience this is usually Indian Standard Time, but check rather than assume.

How should you test it?

This is our method, not Instagram's. Treat it as an experiment you run on yourself.

  • Pick three posting times from your audience's active hours.
  • Post the same kind of reel at each time across two weeks, rotating through them.
  • Note the reach and Views for each after the same number of hours.
  • Keep the time that did best, and test one new time against it.
  • Repeat every few months, because audiences change.

Two weeks of your own posts is a small sample, so do not read too much into one result. If a time wins several weeks in a row, that is worth keeping.
